The most common question we get
"Should I use Zestly, Buffer, or Hootsuite?"
The honest answer is: it depends. And I mean that — Zestly isn't the right choice for everyone. This comparison will try to give you a genuine answer rather than a sales pitch.
Buffer
Pricing: From $15 USD/month (roughly $23 AUD)
Social accounts: 3 on entry plan
AI writing: No
Team features: Very limited
Analytics: Basic
Who it's good for: Solo creators, individuals managing 1-3 personal or brand accounts who want simple, no-fuss scheduling. Buffer's interface is genuinely the cleanest in the market. If you just need a queue, Buffer does it well.
Where it falls short: Very limited analytics. No team collaboration. No AI. No content calendar view. Scales poorly — the per-channel pricing model gets expensive as soon as you manage more than a handful of accounts.
Honest take: Great starting tool. Most businesses outgrow it within 6-12 months.
Hootsuite
Pricing: From $99 USD/month (roughly $155 AUD)
Social accounts: 10 on entry plan
AI writing: No
Team features: 1 user on entry, more on higher plans
Analytics: Moderate
Who it's good for: Large enterprises with dedicated social media teams, significant budgets, and genuine need for enterprise integrations (Salesforce, Adobe, Microsoft Teams).
Where it falls short: Expensive. Dated interface. No built-in AI writing. Overkill for most SMBs and agencies. Support is not Australia-focused.
Honest take: An excellent product for its intended audience (enterprise). Wrong tool for most Australian SMBs and agencies.
Zestly
Pricing: From $29 AUD/month
Social accounts: 10 on entry plan
AI writing: Yes (Claude)
Team features: 3 members on Starter, unlimited on Pro
Analytics: Basic (Starter) to Advanced (Pro)
Who it's good for: Australian SMBs, marketing agencies, freelance social media managers, and ecommerce businesses that want professional features without enterprise pricing.
Where it falls short: Younger product — some edge-case features and integrations that Hootsuite has built over 15 years don't exist yet. Not the right choice if you need Salesforce integration or enterprise social listening.
Honest take: The best value option for the majority of Australian businesses in 2026.
The decision matrix
Choose Buffer if: You're a solo creator with 1-3 accounts and a tight budget.
Choose Hootsuite if: You're a large enterprise with a dedicated social team, need enterprise integrations, and have a $2,000+/year social tools budget.
Choose Zestly if: You're anything in between — an SMB, agency, or freelancer who wants professional features at accessible Australian pricing, with AI writing built in.
What I'd actually do
If I were starting an agency today and didn't have existing tool commitments, I'd start on Zestly's Starter plan to evaluate it, then upgrade to Pro once I had 5+ clients. I'd never start on Hootsuite's pricing — the ROI doesn't stack up until you're genuinely enterprise-scale.
If you're currently on Hootsuite and not using the enterprise features, there's a very good chance you can switch, save money, and get better features. The migration is easier than you think.
